The Anti-Poaching Association of Finland, APAF is an organization that promotes nonprofit work mainly in Finland and in Africa through projects that support wildlife conservation. APAF enhances well-being by mitigating human-wildlife conflict, supporting research and educational initiatives.

Our primary goal is to support other non-profit organisations and establish strong coalitions that together are more potent to fight against the problem of poaching.

About the founder

Jere Hietala is an internationally awarded photographer, entrepreneur and conservationist.

Career in professional photography

During his thirteen years as a photographer, he has worked with the world’s leading listed companies and advertising agencies and with the governmental offices such as: Police of Finland, Finnish Defence Forces, Finnish Border Guard (5th Special Intervention Unit). He has also had a privilege of working with a variety of  high profile individuals, such as 50 Cent,  Conan O’Brien, Blake Griffin,  Anze Kopitar and the President of Finland to name a few. In 2016 and 2018, he was selected as the official Finnish Olympic Team photographer.

For his work as a photographer he has received +20 awards, honours and a USPTA patent. His work has been presented by many prestigious magazines such as Vanity Fair Italy. He has also had two solo concervation based charity exhibitions at Milan fashion week and one solo exhibition in Dubai.

His work mentality has lead him to represent international brands such as Under Armour, Bravo Concealment and 5.11 Tactical as their brand ambassador.

Security training

Jere is an active reservist in the Finnish Defense Forces, where he also conducts firearms training as an instructor. He has undergone various different private security courses, such as: CPO, MSO, FPOS etc. He has an extensive knowhow in advanced intelligence photography.

Conservation

Jere made his first anti-poaching related project in 2015. Since then, he has done several projects across Africa, assisting various anti-poaching units in equipment acquisition, training, and raising awareness via numerous TV and magazine interviews.
